Lorraine Bracco Biography, Facts and Life Story
Lorraine Bracco, Italian: ['brakko]; born 2nd October 1954. She is an American actress on the film and television industries. Her distinct Brooklyn accent and loud voice have been recognized with nominations for the Academy Award, four Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. Her birthplace was in New York City and started her modeling career in France. In the 1980s, she appeared in films with Italian-language subtitles which included Lina Wertmuller's Camorra (1986) which was a film in which Bracco was joined by Harvey Keitel. The first film in Bracco's English language was The Pick-Up Artist (1987). The film was followed by other roles such such as Someone to Watch Over Me (1987), Sing (89) and The Dream Team (1989). Her character in the role of Karen Hill, the wife of Henry Hill's mob ally was her first big break. She was nominated for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for the Golden Globe Award - Motion Picture for Best Supporting Actress. Bracco is best known for her performance as Jennifer Melfi (the psychiatrist of Tony Soprano) in HBO's show The Sopranos (1999–2007). In the initial three seasons of the show she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Lead Actress in the Drama Series and also for the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress in a Television Series Drama. The role of her diminished in the fourth season, however she was recognized for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in the Drama Series.
